1996 HYDAT INTERIM RELEASE

   This is the interim release of the 1996 Hydat CD-ROM. 
   It contains hydrometric data updated to the end of 
   1996 for most locations. Sediment data for all stations, 
   and flow and level data for Manitoba stations, and Quebec 
   stations processed through the Province of Quebec are 
   only current to the end of 1995.

   The final 1996 Hydat update CD-ROM will be provided 
   at no charge to purchasers of this interim release. 
   We expect it will be available in the fall of 1998.


LICENSE AGREEMENT

The license agreement governing the use of this software
and data product is in the file lic_eng.txt.


INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING AND STARTING HYDAT.EXE 
(Windows Version 1.04 released 98.07.24)

1  Create a directory on your hard drive where you will 
   install the Hydat software.

2  Copy all the files from the Hydat\English directory 
   on the CD-ROM to the new directory on your hard drive. 
   You will need to use Windows Explorer to clear the 
   read-only property of the hconf6.cfg file. This is 
   needed since the Hydat software writes configuration 
   changes to this file.

3  To start the Hydat software, double click the 
   Hydat.exe icon displayed by Windows Explorer on your hard disk. 
   Then use the Utilities|Configuration menu in the Hydat 
   software to set CD-ROM  Drive and the Index Root Directory 
   paths to your CD-ROM drive.


NOTES:

   If you have older versions of the "dll" files in 
   your Windows\system directory, you should replace them.

   Data access speed is generally acceptable from the CD-ROM. 
   But if you wish faster data access, you can copy the HSIS6 
   directory and its subdirectories and files, retaining 
   all the names, to your hard drive. You will need to use the 
   Utilities|Configuration menu in the Hydat software to specify
   the new path for the Index Root Directory.
